Welcome To The AbledArts Page

 Our code
To set up a series of web pages for the purpose of providing an electronic "marketing tool" for those artisans, who happen to have a disABILITY. The arts include poets, writers, fine artists, illustrators, potters, dance, etc., any individual category that falls into the broader category of art. We want to open up "this new site" to all individuals with art as their vocation or avocation, so it will eventually be a global "art market site."
Tom Lohre will act as project director, using his expertise in this field to act as coordinator, resource person, delegated, project manager. He will be overseeing the effort, assuring that we have the resources necessary to have a great art presence on the Web.

Designing and producing web pages can even fall into this category of art, coming under the more specific title of "new media."

Online Disabled Artists Colony Helping Artists Make Money

Artists may receive online guidance on how to promote, sell, display and
their craft through through the grateful help of Elaine   Wally Hackett and their internet presence at SpeciaLink, a complete one stop place for
disabilities on the internet. AbledArts is the name of one of their many
sponsored pages and the focus of this article.

What is AbledArts?
AbledArts helps online artists of all types: writing, dance, theater, performance, poetry, sculpture and visual arts. Its main goal is to help challenged artists make money with their work via the internet. The basic way help is given is via email. Artists request answers and the director, Tom Lohre answers the question or finds the answer. In addition to visual arts help can be given for music, dance, poetry, performance and web design skills. Questions can concern funding, creative, venues, contests, selling, marketing and resources.

How do I join?
By sending an email to the AbledArts director, Tom Lohre at tom@tomlohre.com you can begin to get straightforward advice about your art. Currently AbleArts is actively looking for members. New members need not have a clear idea of why they want to join just the desire to be enveloped. Developing a complete Greater Cincinnati Area disabled artist group email list is one of the goals of AbleArts. Another goal is to become more affiliated with the National Very Special Arts Organization based out of Washington DC. Robert Harris is the manager of the Very Special Arts Cincinnati Branch and soon hopes to have events affiliated with the national organization.

Who is Tom Lohre?
Tom Lohre, AbledArts Director, is  a life long, self supporting portrait and landscape artist. Tom Lohre is the web master for the AbleArts Page and its critiqued pages on the SpeciaLink Web Site. He gives individual attention to members by critiquing attached E-mailed images of their work. He also assembles a individual member web page with their best work and offers a critique.

What are other services offered?
Advice on computer hardware and software can be offered concerning art. He also has some old computers and software that can be distributed to young computer artists.   Help in getting artists art onto the net can also be requested. Tom believes that the best initial internet venue for beginning visual artists is to auction your art over the internet at various auction houses such as E-Bay and Yahoo! You can set a minimum price and if the bid does not get over that then you only owe a few dollars at E-Bay or nothing at Yahoo! Internet auctions offer a excellent venue for getting real input on their art.

What can be done in the future?
Public Shows, Online Auctions, Subscribing to Listservs, Creating Web Pages,  Creating our own Listserv
